Bailey Metal Products, a proud subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, is seeking aMaterial Handler for its Edmonton (Alberta) location. This is a great chance to join a Top Employer and contribute to our growth and success. This is a temporary contract position.

Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to support the efficient handling, storage, and movement of finished products in alignment with established warehouse plans and procedures. It plays a key role in maintaining the flow of materials and ensuring that production targets are met through coordination with various departments.

This role is critical to the overall production function at Bailey Metal Products Limited. Improper handling or storage of finished goods may result in product damage, reduced warehouse efficiency, and negative impacts on productivity and profitability. By maintaining accuracy and efficiency, this position helps safeguard operational performance and supports the company's success.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document pre-use forklift inspections; operate forklifts safely and seek supervision when handling long finished products.
  • Ensure empty carts are available for operators and assist with strapping as needed.
  • Verify product quality and packaging standards before moving lifts for shipping or stacking; report any non-conforming items promptly to the supervisor or lead hand.
  • Distribute finished goods to designated areas per the yard plan and warehouse layout; stack materials safely using blocks when necessary to prevent damage.
  • Coordinate daily with the warehouse supervisor or team lead regarding specific orders and long-length product requirements.
  • Receive and unload incoming materials such as steel coils and cartons; verify against packing lists.
  • Assist with loading outbound trucks and trailers for both plant and warehouse shipments.
  • Operate overhead cranes for coil loading when certified.
  • Collect and dispose of scrap materials and wooden skids safely into designated bins.
  • Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping inside and outside the plant.
  • Be available for shift work as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the supervisor or lead hand.

Description du profil

  • Minimum five years of forklift operation experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Valid forklift operator certification/license.
  • Proficient in operating forklifts, strapping equipment, and propane fuel stations.
  • Strong understanding of steel coil specifications (sizes, gauges) and Bailey Metal Products Limited's finished goods, including lift configurations, weights, and stacking requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior, open-mindedness, attention to detail, and persistence.
  • Dependable team player with initiative, adaptability, and the ability to meet deadlines.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a fast-paced environment while meeting all safety requirements.
  • Tasks assigned must be completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Physically capable of safely operating forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Capable of strapping the lifts as required.
  • Physically able to lift materials up to 50lbs.
  • Willing and able to work rotating shifts as required.
