Kaycan has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance B position based in Smiths Falls to join our maintenance team. This is a great chance to begin a hands-on technical career with a Top Employer and gain the training and experience needed to become a fully qualified Maintenance Mechanic.
As part of our skilled maintenance department, you will receive on-the-job training and mentorship from experienced trades professionals while supporting the maintenance and improvement of our manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities

• troubleshoot, repair, and maintain manufacturing and production equipment.
• Support senior maintenance staff with equipment installations, upgrades, and rebuilds.
• Participate in preventive maintenance activities and learn to complete inspections and maintenance reports.
• Mechanical fabrication, including cutting, welding, and basic machining.
• Learn to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
• Work safely and follow all company safety procedures and guidelines.
• Assist in basic electrical, plumbing, and hydraulic maintenance under supervision.
• Collaborate with production and technical teams to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
• Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and contractors.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor.

Training & Development

• Receive structured, hands-on training from certified Maintenance Mechanics and Millwrights.
• Gain exposure to manufacturing systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and automation.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects and learn how to identify and resolve equipment performance issues.
• Opportunity to pursue trade certification (Millwright 433A or equivalent) with company support.

Requirements

• Mechanical aptitude and interest in a skilled trade or maintenance career.
• high school with strong technical courses preferred.
• Basic understanding of hand tools, power tools, and mechanical systems.
• Supply own tools
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a fast-paced industrial environment.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to workplace safety and proper use of PPE (hearing, vision, and protective footwear).
• Basic computer skills are an asset.
