The Logistics Manager, under the direction of the VP of Operations, People, and Culture, is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of our fleet and helping to maximize the efficiency of the fleet across all locations. This position is responsible for the direct management of all warehousing and distribution functions and includes accountability for inbound/outbound and effective storage of freight, as well as adherence to legislative, safety, and organizational policies and procedures.

Operational
- Ensure all established delivery commitments are met and that all shipped product conforms to company quality standards
- Communicate all delays or variances in inbound/outbound freight to the appropriate parties
- Coordinate shipping activities with all other functions within the organization to obtain optimum performance from the internal fleet and the outside carriers;
- Develop and maintain relationships with outside carriers to ensure availability of extra capacity as required and to ensure cost competitiveness with all carriers
- Enhance communication between sales and logistics to increase the level of customer service
- Manage the truck and equipment fleet, freight contracts and rates, and external freight suppliers
- Assist the Logistics Coordinators with oversight of the drivers to ensure efficiency of all daily runs
- Oversee loading crew in all locations to ensure that loads are being built safely and that orders are being shipped completely
- Utilize route planning software to optimize delivery capacity
- Ensure the Logistics teams are scheduling all trucks and trailers for service, reporting monthly mileage
- Implement and monitor performance metrics for warehouse and shipping employees
- Investigate causes of lost or damaged shipments
- Anaylze freight metrics and KPI's for efficiency improvement as well as looking for potential areas of growth or cost reduction.
- Ensure that IFTA reporting is occurring on a timely basis
- Complete the annual licensing/permitting functions for all trucks and trailers
- Apply for and maintain all specialty truck and trailer permits
- Ensure that the shipping area and yard stay clean and organized
- Develop a yard traffic control program
- Develop a quality control program for loading to ensure that loads are being shipped accurately and completely
- Develop a training program for outside carriers, ensuring they are trained to deliver our product safely, understand the customer service requirements, and are held accountable for damage/backcharges
- Develop a Logistics manual to ensure that logistics processes are well documented and can be replicated in the future
- Manage difficult customer situations in a professional manner
- Respond promptly to customer needs both internally and externally
Health and Safety
- Maintain and enforce company safety policies
- Ensure that all staff under your direction are following all safe work practices
- Perform regular workplace inspections, both scheduled and unscheduled
- Support all aspects of the Corporate Health and Safety program
- Maintain a strong knowledge of all Health and Safety policies
- Monitor accident frequency and history and analyze injury data
- Report all accidents/incidents promptly, conduct investigations, and act on recommendations
Human Resources
- Promote teamwork within and across departments
- Conduct and document monthly crew meetings to discuss, review and implement items such as new/existing procedures, company policies, department performance, safety talks, Health and Safety
- Assist with succession planning in the Logistics department
- Review all work performed by employees for completion, accuracy and quality and identify any performance improvements
- Participate in selection process, discipline and training and recommend actions such as hiring, promotions and appropriate disciplinary actions
- Maintain harmony among workers and resolve any grievances with the assistance of Human Resources
- Monitor and manage GPS system for driver's hours and note any discrepancies
- Ensure hours of work are in compliance with government rules
