Maintenance Supervisor
Mechanical
2nd Shift (3pm - 11pm), M-F
Reporting directly to the Plant Maintenance Manager, this Maintenance Supervisor will focus on the mechanical maintenance within the plant, overseeing the daily activities of skilled mechanical maintenance personnel and assists with mechanical project work as assigned. Provides key leadership and technical support to the maintenance department, while promoting positive employee relations within the maintenance team. Consistently and equitably enforce plant rules, holding crewmembers accountable for all facets of their jobs. Supervisor is held accountable to ensure mechanical maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements, compliance with legal and company policies, and procedures in a manner consistent with SGC Principles of Conduct and Action. The ideal candidate will be familiar with facilities mechanical systems, be able to effectively troubleshoot any failures, and will possess a strong knowledge of mechanical layouts.
What's the job?
- Accountable for safe maintenance activities. Will follow, teach, and improve safety systems and procedures to employees and contractors
- Directly supervises the hourly skilled mechanical maintenance employees in the improvement and maintenance of plant equipment, building maintenance, machinery, utilities etc. Will lead shift safety meetings to ensure compliance to all safety, environmental and health policies, procedures, and practices
- Organize and structure planned and unplanned repairs and preventive maintenance routines in a manner that will ensure efficient operation of equipment and plant operating systems
- Oversees the training of maintenance employees to ensure they receive adequate training prior to repairing/working on any of the manufacturing equipment per standard operating and maintenance procedures, and work instructions
- Identifies and executes development opportunities for the maintenance team in both technical and soft skills
- Communicates & documents employee expectations and assesses employee performance. Provides coaching and development opportunities of maintenance crews and administers disciplinary action
- Progressively improves the Professional Maintenance status of all equipment on a prioritized basis using WCM techniques and practices
- Oversees timely completion of breakdown root cause analysis and countermeasure implementation (EWO)
- Create notifications, work orders, and purchase order requisitions using the CMMS system
- Works with maintenance lead personnel to ensure correct prioritization and timely completion of all work orders
- Works with Maintenance Manager to develop PMs that drive improved reliability as well as developing and maintaining standard - will maintain records of all plant equipment performance
- Maintains workplace organization to ensure good housekeeping (5S) by holding employees responsible for their assigned work areas
- Reviews and approves employee time in the timekeeping system and ensures employees are paid the correct hours and wages in accordance with the pay policies, procedures, or collective bargaining agreements (CBA)
- Investigate EH&S incidents - Injuries, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage. Conduct EHS and SMAT Audits to support the plants EHS goals. Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities. Participate in the development, understanding and review of all position job safety assessments and standard operating procedures and participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions
- Occasional long hours, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required

What do you bring?
- A minimum of 5 years of Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
- Advanced knowledge in the fields of hydraulics, pneumatics and fluid power
- A high level of knowledge/understanding of Preventive Maintenance (PM) tracking systems is required
- A technical diploma in the fields of mechanical engineering/manufacturing or equivalent experience and a thorough knowledge of skills utilized in mechanical maintenance manufacturing improvement
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical diploma or equivalent knowledge, skills, and training (preferred)
- General understanding of ISO methodology (ISO 9001, 14001, & OHSAS 18001)
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 5S & Six Sigma
- Proficient in use of MS Office (familiarity with UKG/Workday and SAP systems) - high-level knowledge of computer systems/programs, especially in areas of preventive maintenance solutions/tracking
- Proficient in SAP ERP Management (preferred)
Technical Skills Required
- Must be able to successfully perform all tasks necessary to troubleshoot, test, calibrate, repair, overhaul, maintain, construct, modify or install mechanical equipment components, buildings and/or land improvements, including; laying out, setting up or assembling work for Direct Reports.
- Must be proficient in the assembling and/or disassembling of equipment components or equipment, replacing defective parts, ordering replacement parts, repairing damaged or defective parts, adjusting machinery, controls, regulators and instruments, rigging, moving, erecting and/or dismantling equipment components.
- Must possess the keen ability to observe the operation of maintenance or production equipment in the course of performing the aforementioned tasks to obtain maximum manufacturing efficiency with minimum downtime for maintenance or repair.
- Mechanical PPE and proper Lockout/Tagout
- Experience with PLC's, VFD's, AC/DC circuits analysis, general power distribution system and natural gas fired burner controls
