You will join the International Division of Suez Consulting. The International Division has a turnover of over €40M, generated in Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Most of the projects are financed by international donors (AFD, WB, ADB, BAD, EU, EIB, etc.), for which our teams provide engineering and consultancy services for essential services: water, waste, roads, railways, energy, the environment, urban management, etc. in developing and emerging countries.
Energy Economist - M/F
As an Energy Economist within Safege Energy - Suez Consulting team based in Brussels, you will contribute to a wide range of energy system consulting assignments. You will support the delivery of techno-economic analyses for diverse clients across multiple geographical regions, contributing to strategic decision-making in the energy sector.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Energy Economist, you will contribute to all or part of the following tasks, depending on your level of involvement in each project:
- ENERGY SYSTEM ADVISORY SERVICES
- Develop a clear understanding of project objectives, client needs, and sector-specific challenges;
- Collect, validate, and structure data from multiple sources;
- Model energy systems using specialized tools and perform targeted simulations;
- Conduct robust techno-economic analyses, including cost-benefit analyses, with a strong focus on electrification planning and energy system studies;
- Prepare clear and compelling visualizations, presentations, and analytical reports;
- Participate actively in internal and client project meetings;
- Draft high-quality project deliverables in line with consulting standards;
- Ensure compliance with project timelines, budgets, and quality requirements.
- CLIENT RELATIONSHIP
- Provide high-level economic expertise and analytical support to clients;
- Contribute to maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring overall client satisfaction.
- TEAMWORK
- Actively participate in weekly team meetings;
- Share project progress, client feedback, and research findings with team members;
- Work closely with senior experts to strengthen and expand your technical expertise;
- Proactively raise questions, risks, or issues to your management;
- Suggest continuous improvement initiatives, including tools, methodologies, and training opportunities.
- TRANSVERSAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure strict compliance with ethical standards;
- Fully adhere to Group policies and procedures, particularly regarding health, safety, and environmental requirements;
- Comply with IT policies, data protection regulations, and data backup procedures.
Description du profil
REQUIRED COMPETENCES
- TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
- Master's degree in Economics or a closely related field;
- Min. 5 years of professional experience in the energy sector;
- Full professional proficiency in English and French, both written and spoken;
- Working knowledge of relevant modeling and analytical tools (e.g. Plexos, PyPSA, …);
- Proven or developing experience in the following areas:
- PERSONAL AND CONSULTING SKILLS
- Strong interest in energy system planning and motivation to continuously develop and share expertise;
- Willingness to travel internationally, including to emerging and developing countries, for data collection, presentations, and training activities;
- Solid consulting skills, including:
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
