Stirling Dynamics is recruiting a Business Manager, to lead the Technical Consultancy Business Unit.

This is a new role managing the Technical Consultancy business portfolio, combining all market sectors we operate within, including Training & Simulation, Aerospace, eVTOL, Marine and Aviation.

With annual revenue in excess of £20M and ambitious plans for growth, Stirling Dynamics is looking for an effective leader to manage the portfolio. Working in a project-oriented matrix management organisation, you will be responsible for the Business Unit strategy, bids, overall revenue and margin. You will be liaising closely with business development, engineering, and the project management office. You will also work closely with the other supporting functions (finance, quality, security and export control) to ensure a seamless delivery of service to the customer.

We are looking for a candidate with demonstrable business management skills with a positive and proactive approach to delivery; they will need to be able to work closely with the business development and project management teams and lead the delivery of compelling proposals.

Applicants should have firm financial acumen, business management and leadership skills. It is highly advantageous that the successful candidate has an existing understanding of some of the markets we operate within. However, we will also consider candidates who do not yet have the relevant experience but have the right attitude and passion to develop into the role. We will provide the necessary training and mentoring as required.

Due to the nature of the projects that we are involved in, candidates must be eligible to obtain UK security clearance (SC).


Stirling Dynamics has a geographically diverse customer base and as such the candidate will be required to travel nationally and internationally. Along with a hybrid working method based out of offices in Bristol, the successful candidate is expected to visit customers and to represent Stirling at events and exhibitions.



Responsibilities:

The below is a list of responsibilities that the role entails. We will provide support to the successful candidate to develop their skills should some of the below be new to them.

  • Definition of business unit strategy, preparation of rolling 3-year business plans and annualised budgets.
  • Deliver the budgeted revenue ensuring maintenance of overall and business unit Gross Margin.
  • Lead the delivery of bids including pricing and commercial offer
  • Working with Head of Programmes, management of the business unit project portfolio and stakeholders, ensuring overall business unit targets are met.
  • Work with the Business Development team to:
    • interpret the market need to develop the business unit strategy
    • seek and understand competitors' offerings and technologies, assess their strengths and weaknesses, and define Stirling's price competitive response
  • Working as part of a wider team, supporting company initiatives and strategic plans

Benefits:

Competitive package. The role can cover grades 6 - 7 (with relevant experience) and therefore has a wide salary range (£46,000 - £65,000) as it will depend on the candidate's experience level.
