Furnaces Process Engineer (F/M)

MAIN MISSION

The mission of our Business Division (BD), Technology and Technical Support (T&TS), is to propose to our clients sustainable solutions, which are also efficient in terms of technologies / process, catalysts / adsorbents and services for the whole domains Axens is involved in (Oil & Biomass Hydroprocessing & conversion, Petrochemicals production & purification, Gas and Water Treatment, CO2 capture). T&TS Business Division is responsible for the performance achieved in Axens' clients units and for maintaining the competitiveness of our offer in a very competitive market and during the energy transition period. Technologist position is at the crossroads of Axens core jobs, mixing technical support to sales, partnership of the performance of our Clients and piloting R&D actions to ensure our long-term competitiveness.

The Furnaces Product Line is responsible for sizing process furnaces on behalf of our customers, and supporting them in the ongoing global energy transition.





MAIN ACTIVITIES



Reporting to the Head of the Furnaces Process, Proposals & Services team, you will be working on a range of assignments, from design in the pre-project bid phase up to detailed engineering of the implementation phase, and in some cases even equipment start-up. You will also be called upon to work regularly on assignments on revamp and studies for our customers, in partnership with Services project engineers part of your team.



In the pre-project bid phase, under the responsibility of the assigned proposal manager part of your team, your main task will be to size conventional or electrical furnaces and their equipment, and to assist the sales team in selling furnaces to our refining and petrochemical customers. You are the technical responsible of the furnace design in the proposal team composed of 5 à to 10 people,



You will play an active role in the transformation of our business, helping to decarbonize our industry and introduce new digital services. Via your technical knowledge you will play a key role in developing and promoting our AXENS furnace offer.



To this end, you will work mainly on the following activities:

Thermal, hydraulic and mechanical sizing of direct-heating or electric tube furnaces designed and produced by the company,

Issue specification sheets for furnaces and associated equipment,

· Drawing up lists of required equipment and estimating associated costs,

· Drawing up instrumentation diagrams,

Remote technical support for connected furnaces, acting as a point of contact for the customers under his responsibility, to alert them to any problems or possible improvements identified,

· Technical support for sales staff in the proposal phase, at head office or during meetings with customers.

In the execution project phase, you are the technical responsible of the furnace design in the project team composed of 10 à to 20 people, under the responsibility of the project manager. The project team is mainly composed of colleagues part of other entities of the company. In that frame, your mission is to ensure the development of detailed engineering:

· Drafting of furnace start-up, control and safety procedures,

· Technical support for project managers, at headquarters or during meetings with customers or suppliers.

· Validation of equipment and PLCs (performance tests at suppliers, FAT).

At the end of the project, you may be assigned field missions to assist the customer during start-up (commissioning, dry-out, start-up).

In support of your colleagues dealing with Services, and as part of our desire to provide technical assistance to our customers, you will also be asked to work on revamp and troubleshooting studies for existing units, particularly as part of our customers' decarbonization objectives.

This type of position may involve short-term travel in France or abroad for technical meetings and possibly longer technical assistance missions.

After a few years in this role, there is ample scope for advancement, for example into technical sales support or technical support in the field, but also into project management.

Furnace product line market impose sometimes very short time responsive time and lead very often to tangible success, via fabrication & delivery of real equipment within 6 months to 1.5 year time. Our engineers are in close contact to clients and sometime to field operators which will favor committed & reactive profiles. The wide range of topics which can be covered by Furnace process engineers (revamp, studies, bid phase, new furnace delivery phase, start up, HAZOP meetings, training sessions organization, digital monitoring, electrical furnace..) gives the advantage of never getting bored. As we are a small entity, every person of the team must be autonomous and will be in charge of several different topics, under the responsibility of the manager who will prioritize the activities on weekly basis.

AXENS internal applications:

AXENS internal applications will be carefully analyzed as the knowledge of the company organization and the knowledge of AXENS missions/markets will speed up the training phase necessary for this position.

Based on his historic and even if completely integrated in the group, furnace product line can present some singularity (as stated above) which can be of interest depending on your profile.

Furnace Process Engineer will interact on regular basis with other TTS product lines (via design request for TTS offers, mainly for renewable product lines with electrical furnaces OR via TTS global studies/digital monitoring/Training/Tech Services), with POP (via bid design work or execution project team) and with CIAL (via bid phase work).
